Donation Amounts - Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS)

So, woke up to move my car this morning, only to find it had a ticket already on it. Why, because each day of the week has a different time for street sweeping, different duration window and 2 hours earlier if parking meters are present!

The city of San Francisco does this so you can’t remember the street sweeping hours = getting a 55 dollar ticket. Also elminates “word of mouth” advise to help your fellow man.

Donation amounts need to be the polar oppisite. Make sure that each amount is a easy number to get your head around and then keep that number as long as you can. Make it intuitive, e.g. Plant a tree = $10, and save a old growth tree = $100.

If you keep it simple and don’t change your numbers from month to month, year to year, then your advocates for your non-profit will spread SIMPLE numbers to their friends that will make a large impact on your bottom line.

We used to give 8 different donations types, 8 different amounts and in different scheduled donation intervals. Use KISS! Make your non-profit more like IN-&-OUT. IN-&-OUT is easy to explain to a out-of-towner because it is a simple concept (just one type of burger) and because I can explain it in 15 seconds, my friend ususally wants to eat there before they leave California.

We could go on and on, but it all boils down to future ubiquity for personal online profiles, representing every individual who is online, which in mature consumer societies will mean 99% of the population.

Followed this fire all last night in my home town of Santa Barbara. Where did I find the most accurate and up to date information: Twitter
I knew where the cops were evactuating homes at a moments notice because Twitter users would use their phones to tell the rest of Santa Barbara when they had to evac.
Also interesting to see Twitter users in Santa Barbara asking the founders of Twitter not to have a schedule maintainace for Twitter today. Goes to show you that Twitter is the communication life line in natuarl disasters.
Sending good karma to SB and hope rain comes soon. Keep up the great fight Brain and the rest of the central coast fire fighters.

According to Network for Good’s data, 8,000 causes have actively raised money using Causes for a total of $7.5 million — or an average total of donations to each cause of over $930.

Great job by CharityWater today and this past week, using photos from the ground in Ethiopia to make their message to Hugh Jackman more personal. I don’t think having more followers then the actor hurt either for volume messaging leverage ;)

Fresh Start

Funny how going to a conference forces you to dust off your projects/portfolio. I have needed to reinvent RyanQuiel.com since redesigning it to show my body of work close to 3 years and/or two jobs ago. I thought long and hard if I wanted to continue to useWordpress, which I really like for my niche sites, but it comes down to, Will I Continue To Update? The answer was no. So, that is why I decided to use Tumblr, a simple to use CMS, that will increase my liklihoodd to frequently post on this site for months and years to come. I will try to keep my post related to social marketing and online giving for non-profits. I hope you will learn with me as I journey into the excitingpossiblities of non-profits dominating online, were we are no longer two years behind corporations on the web, but years ahead of them in social marketing.
